Panchang 3 August 2026: First Sawan Somvar
Today is the first Sawan Somvar of 2026. Monday inside Shravan is the day devotees give to Shivji, and this is the first of four. If you have been meaning to start a practice, the calendar has just opened the best window of the year.
Today's Panchang
The Moon runs through Uttara Bhadrapada until 10:00 PM, then moves into Revati. The tithi is Krishna Panchami, holding until 10:55 PM. Yoga is Sukarma, karana is Kaulava. Sunrise falls at 5:43 AM and sunset at 7:11 PM in Delhi.
Uttara Bhadrapada is the still, deep-water nakshatra. It carries patience and quiet resolve rather than momentum. That suits a vrat better than almost any other star. The day does not ask you to push. It asks you to keep your word to yourself.
The Timing That Actually Matters Today
Rahu Kaal falls from 7:24 AM to 9:05 AM.
Read that twice, because it lands directly on the hour most families do the morning Shiv puja. Make your water offering before 7:24 AM, or wait until after 9:05 AM. Brahma Muhurat, just before dawn, is the strongest option and needs no compromise.

Keeping the First Somvar
The vrat is plain by design. Bathe before sunrise, offer water to a Shivling, and place bilva leaves in threes. Chant Om Namah Shivaya one hundred and eight times. Keep one meal after sunset, without grain or salt if your family keeps the stricter form.
The first Monday sets the tone for the other three. Choose a form you can hold on 10, 17, and 24 August as well. A gentler vrat kept four times is worth more than a severe one kept once.
