What Is a Rudraksha Bead?

A Rudraksha is the seed of the Rudraksha tree, sacred to Shivji. Worn close to the body, it is said to calm the mind and steady the breath. The Rudraksha Jabala Upanishad says these beads guard the wearer and clear the mind through the day. Each bead carries natural ridges called mukhi, the faces that run from top to bottom. The mukhi count is how you read the bead and how you choose the right one for your goal.

The mukhi count ties each bead to a graha and to a steady result. Ek Mukhi, the single-face bead, aligns with Surya (Sun) and is the rarest of all. Panchmukhi, the five-face bead, belongs to Guru (Jupiter), gives broad protection, and is the safe place to start.
