The Month Is Not Over Everywhere
Under the Purnimanta calendar of the North, Sawan ends today. Under the Amanta calendar of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, and the South, it runs on to 11 September.

Shatabhisha, the Empty Circle
The full moon lands in Shatabhisha, the star of a hundred healers. Its deity is Varuna, who keeps the oceans and holds people to their oaths. Its ruling graha is Rahu, and its symbol is an empty circle.
Varuna fits a closing day, because he is the one who holds you to what you said. This month asked for small promises. A fast, a mantra count, one early morning a week. Today is where you find out which you meant.
A circle that closes is complete, and it is also open again, ready for the next round. Shravan ends tonight and Bhadrapada starts tomorrow.
