Panchang 13 August 2026: Amanta Sawan Begins Today
Sawan starts today for half the country. North India began on 30 July and is two weeks in. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu begin the same month this morning. Both counts are correct. The gap is one fortnight of arithmetic, not a disagreement.
Today's Panchang
Shukla Pratipada runs until 8:41 PM, then Dwitiya. The Moon leaves Ashlesha at 6:07 AM, eighteen minutes after sunrise, and moves into Magha for the rest of the day. Yoga is Variyana, karana is Kimstughna. Sunrise is 5:49 AM in Delhi and sunset 7:03 PM.
The Moon reads zero percent and is now waxing. Amavasya finished yesterday, so this is day one of a new bright fortnight, and on the Amanta reckoning day one of a new month.
The Karana Tells You a Month Just Started
Kimstughna is one of the four fixed karanas. It does not rotate the way the other seven do. It appears in exactly one place, the first half of Shukla Pratipada, and nowhere else in the lunar month.
It is the cleanest marker in today's chart that this is a beginning and not a continuation. When Kimstughna shows up in a panchang, a fortnight has just opened.
Ashlesha Clears Early, Magha Takes the Day
Ashlesha holds for eighteen minutes and goes. It is the coiled star, ruled by Budh (Mercury), and the tightest of the twenty-seven. Losing it that early is a gift on a day meant for starting something.
Magha carries the rest of the day. It belongs to the Pitris, the ancestors, and is ruled by Ketu. Magha is the star of what you inherited rather than what you built. A month that opens under it opens with the line you stand in. Ask what your family kept, and keep that.
Windows to Work Around
Yamaganda opens right at sunrise, 5:49 AM to 7:28 AM, and Gulika follows from 9:07 AM to 10:47 AM. Between them, 7:28 AM to 9:07 AM is clear. So is the long stretch from 10:47 AM to 2:05 PM.
