Three points in Gun Milan. Uses your birth star and your partner's to count a destiny wheel of nine.
Check your full Gun MilanTara (star) is another word for Nakshatra. The night sky has 27 Nakshatras in Vedic astrology. Each one is a slice of sky the Moon crosses. Your Janma Nakshatra (birth star) is the one the Moon sat in at your birth.
Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra[1] places the 27 Nakshatras into groups of nine. Three cycles of nine make 27. This gives the wheel a natural flow. Each round of nine has one of each Tara type. So every person has a Tara tone based on where their star sits.
Tara Koota tests how the birth star of one partner lands when counted from the birth star of the other. The land spot is one of nine Taras. Each Tara has a name and a mood.
Naksham's analysis reveals Tara Koota as the third of the eight kootas. It is worth three points. This is a mid-weight koota. It looks at destiny and long-term flow. A good Tara score points to shared growth over the years.
Here are the 9 Taras in the classical order. Each name tells the tone. The first is the birth star itself. The rest come in a wheel of eight more.
1. Janma Tara (birth star). Neutral. Soft signal. Mildly tough for the female-to-male count.
2. Sampat Tara (wealth). Auspicious. Brings money, growth, and good gain.
3. Vipat Tara (danger). Tough. Classical texts flag this for careful reading.
4. Kshema Tara (well-being). Auspicious. Brings health, peace, and happy days.
5. Pratyari Tara (obstacle). Tough. Classical rule asks for care in timing.
6. Sadhaka Tara (task). Mildly auspicious. Good for work and goals.
7. Vadha Tara (harm). Tough. The most watched of the four difficult Taras.
8. Mitra Tara (friend). Auspicious. Brings warmth and shared bond.
9. Parama Mitra Tara (best friend). The most auspicious. The best score of all.
The four tough Taras (Janma, Vipat, Pratyari, Vadha) are not curses. Naksham's view is to frame these as growth areas. They point to places where love needs more care. Effort fixes most Tara doshas over time.
Tara Koota is worth three points. The rule uses both counts. Once from male star to female star. Once from female star to male star. Both Taras get read.
The count uses the 27 Nakshatra wheel. Start at your partner's Janma Nakshatra. Count forward to your own. Include both ends. Divide by nine. The remainder names the Tara. If there is no remainder, read it as nine (Parama Mitra).
Naksham's analysis reveals that even a Tara Dosha is not a full block. Muhurta Chintamani[3] gives many ways to cancel it. A strong Jupiter, good Nadi match, or shared Rashi can all ease the star-level loss.
