Panchang 26 August 2026: The Moon Reaches Shravana
Sawan is also called Shravan, and Shravan takes its name from a star. Today the Moon is sitting in it. Two days before the month closes, this is as near to a namesake day as the calendar gets.
Today's Panchang
Shukla Trayodashi runs until 8:00 AM, then Chaturdashi holds the rest of the day. The Moon stays in Shravana right through and leaves at 12:47 AM tonight. Yoga is Saubhagya. Karana is Taitila. Sunrise is 5:55 AM in Delhi and sunset 6:50 PM. The Moon is 95 percent lit and waxing.
The Star the Month Is Named After
Shravana means hearing. It comes from the root shru, the same root behind Shruti, the heard scriptures. Its deity is Sri Vishnuji, its ruling graha is Chandra (the Moon), and its symbol is an ear.
The naming rule is worth stating plainly, because most sites skip it. A lunar month is named for the nakshatra the full moon falls in or near. That is an approximate rule, not an exact one. This year the Moon crosses Shravana today, and Friday's full moon sits two stars further along in Shatabhisha. The month keeps the name anyway. That is how the calendar has always worked.
If you take one thing from today, make it listening. Shravana is not the star of saying the right thing. It is the star of hearing what was actually said.

Rahu Kaal takes the middle of the day, 12:23 PM to 2:00 PM.
Wednesday is also the one weekday on which tradition sets Abhijit aside, so the usual noon fallback is not open to you either. Yamaganda runs 7:32 AM to 9:09 AM and Gulika 10:46 AM to 12:23 PM.
Three clean stretches are left: sunrise to 7:32 AM, 9:09 AM to 10:46 AM, and 2:00 PM to sunset at 6:50 PM. Brahma Muhurat before dawn is clear as always. Live windows are on the panchang for 26 August 2026.
Pradosh Vrat
Pradosh belongs to Shivji and is kept in the pradosh window, the couple of hours either side of sunset. Today that puts the evening sitting around 6:50 PM.
Trayodashi runs out at 8:00 AM, and calendars split on which evening to keep the vrat when the tithi ends that early. If your family panchang marks the Tuesday evening instead, keep it there. Both readings are in use and neither is careless.
The form is plain. Bathe in the evening, offer water and bilva leaves to a Shivling, light a lamp, and chant Om Namah Shivaya. Break the fast afterwards.
The Bead of Shivji
Two days of Sawan are left. Either is a fair day to put on a rudraksha for the first time.
The Shiva Purana traces the bead to tear-drops that fell from Shivji's half-closed eyes. The Padma Purana carries a second account, tracing it to drops of perspiration during the burning of Tripura. Both are classical and the tradition has carried both.
