Nadi Koota Explained

Nadi Koota is the 8th and final Koota of Ashtakoota Gun Milan. It carries 8 points out of the full 36. No other Koota carries as much weight. This is why wise astrologers treat Nadi with care.^[1]

The word Nadi means current, channel, or pulse. In classical Vedic and Ayurvedic thought, each person has a main body current. This current shapes health, habits, and the way you age. Nakshatras are grouped by these currents.

Naksham's analysis reveals the three Nadis are Aadi, Madhya, and Antya. Aadi Nadi links to Vata (air). Madhya Nadi links to Pitta (fire). Antya Nadi links to Kapha (earth). Each has nine Nakshatras. Together they cover all 27.

When both partners share different Nadis, their body currents balance each other. This gives the full 8 points. When both share the same Nadi, the same current doubles up. Classical texts call this Nadi Dosha. But it is not a stop sign.

The scoring is simple. You read both partners' Janma Nakshatras. You place each into one of the three Nadis. Then you compare.

• Different Nadis: 8 points. The two body currents balance each other. Full mark. Clean match.
• Same Nadi: 0 points. Both share the same body current. Classical Nadi Dosha. Check for Parihar next.

Most Nakshatra pairs fall into different Nadis. So most couples score the full 8 points here. Same Nadi happens in about one in three pairs. It is common, not rare. And Parihar rules cancel most cases.

Muhurta Chintamani names four strong Parihar rules for Nadi Dosha.^[2] Any one of them cancels the dosha.

1. Same Rashi, different Nakshatra. Both partners share the same Moon Rashi but sit in different Nakshatras inside it. Dosha cancels.
2. Same Nakshatra, different Pada. Both share the same Nakshatra but sit in different quarters (Padas). The Pada change shifts the current. Dosha cancels.
3. Same Rashi lord. The two Moon Rashis share the same ruling planet. Example: both ruled by Mangal or both ruled by Shukra. Dosha cancels.
4. Jupiter's aspect on the 7th. Guru (Jupiter) throws its direct aspect on the 7th house of either chart. Jupiter blesses marriage. Dosha cancels.

Naksham's view is that these Parihar rules are very real, not loopholes. They shift the balance. A Nadi Dosha with clear Parihar is not the same as raw Nadi Dosha. Read the chart with a proper Vedic astrologer.
