Vastu Yantra Placement Guide — Which Yantra for Which Dosh

Bottom line first: Yantras are geometric instruments that concentrate and redirect specific divine energies. In Vastu Shastra, they function as energetic corrective tools — placed at specific locations, they compensate for doshas, amplify beneficial zones, and act as focal points for divine intention. This guide tells you exactly which yantra goes where, for which purpose, and how to activate it correctly.

What Is a Vastu Yantra?

The word Yantra comes from the Sanskrit root yam (to sustain or restrain) + tra (instrument). A yantra is literally an instrument that sustains and concentrates energy.

Unlike idols (murtis) which represent divine form, yantras represent divine geometry — the pure mathematical structure underlying the deity's energy. The Manasara describes yantras as "compressed divine force fields" — when properly consecrated, they operate as living energy installations.

In Vastu application, yantras work by:

  1. Counteracting deficient energy: Placing a yantra associated with a deity whose zone is compromised restores that zone's frequency
  2. Amplifying beneficial energy: A yantra in an already-auspicious zone multiplies its positive qualities
  3. Creating protective shields: Certain yantras create energetic barriers against external negative influences

Sri Yantra — The Master Remedy

The Sri Yantra (also Sri Chakra) is the most universally applicable and powerful Vastu yantra. It is the geometric form of the Tripura Sundari (the complete universe as divine feminine) — a pattern of nine interlocking triangles that encompasses all 64 zones of the Vastu Mandala within a single geometric form.

Why the Sri Yantra works for almost every dosh: The Sri Yantra contains within its geometry the precise proportional relationships of the complete Vastu Purusha Mandala. Placing it in a deficient zone is equivalent to placing a holographic copy of the complete Mandala there — it re-establishes the zone's correct frequency.

Material considerations:

  • Copper Sri Yantra: Most accessible and effective for home use. Copper is Agni's metal and responds well to all directions.
  • Silver Sri Yantra: Ideal for north and northwest placements — silver is Varuna/Soma's metal.
  • Gold-plated Sri Yantra: For maximum effectiveness in the pooja room or northeast.
  • Crystal (quartz) Sri Yantra: Excellent for the northeast and meditation spaces — quartz amplifies Akasha (space) energy.

Our Sri Yantra is crafted from engraved copper, consecrated on a Shukla Paksha Friday with Shodashopachara puja by trained Vedic priests. The consecration energises the geometric form — a bare, unconsecrated yantra is an incomplete instrument.

Kuber Yantra — The Wealth Activator

The Kuber Yantra is a specific numerical grid (magic square) representing Kubera's energy field. It is particularly effective for:

  • Activating the north zone of the home for maximum wealth inflow
  • Correcting north zone weakness (north blocked, dark, or cluttered)
  • Business premises — cash counters, safes, north-facing offices
  • Homes of businesspeople, traders, and financiers

Kuber Yantra Placements

LocationPurpose
North wall of living roomPrimary wealth activation
Near cash counter or safeDirect financial energy focus
North wall of home officeBusiness success and opportunity
Inside cash box or walletPersonal wealth protection
North wall of shop entranceCustomer attraction and sales

Note: The Kuber Yantra works on the manifest, material plane of wealth — it attracts and accumulates money. The Sri Yantra works on a deeper level of abundance (which includes money but also prosperity of all kinds). For a complete home installation, both yantras are ideal: Sri Yantra at the entrance + Kuber Yantra at the north wall.

Our Kuber Yantra is consecrated with Kubera Ashottara Shatanamavali (108 names of Kubera).

Vastu Purush Yantra — The Structural Corrector

The Vastu Purush Yantra is a map of the Vastu Purusha Mandala — it shows the cosmic being lying across the plot, with deities assigned to each zone. When placed in a home:

  • Acts as a complete Vastu correction instrument
  • Particularly effective for irregular plots, cut corners, and general Vastu imbalances
  • Best placed at the entrance of the home, facing inward — as a "blessing gate"
  • Also placed at the foundation level during construction (embedded under the building's threshold or first-floor slab)

Placement in existing homes: North or east wall near the main entrance, at eye level. The Vastu Purusha's head should point northeast.

Direction-Specific Yantra Placement Rules

Each cardinal and intercardinal direction has optimal yantra types:

Activation Ritual — How to Energise a New Yantra

A yantra must be activated before placement. Without activation, it is geometric art — beautiful but inert. With activation, it becomes a living energetic instrument.

Materials needed:

  • Clean copper or clay plate
  • Fresh flowers (preferably red for wealth yantras, white for peace yantras)
  • Ghee lamp (diya)
  • Incense (dhoop)
  • Sandalwood paste or kumkum
  • Raw rice (akshat)
  • Fresh water in a copper vessel

Activation procedure:

  1. Purify yourself: Bathe and wear clean clothes (white or yellow preferred)
  2. Select an auspicious time: Shukla Paksha (waxing moon), morning between 6-10 AM. Ideal days: Friday for Sri Yantra, Thursday for Kuber Yantra, Tuesday for protective yantras.
  3. Prepare the yantra: Place it on the copper plate. Sprinkle fresh water on it, then wipe clean.
  4. Apply the panchopachara (five offerings):
    • Kumkum tilak at the bindu (central point)
    • Sandalwood paste on the outer square
    • Flowers arranged around the yantra
    • Incense waved in front of the yantra (clockwise, three times)
    • Ghee lamp waved in front (aarti — clockwise three times)
  5. Invoke the deity: Recite the yantra's associated mantra 108 times
    • Sri Yantra: Om Shrim Hrim Shrim Kamale Kamalalaye Prasida Prasida Shrim Hrim Shrim Om Mahalakshmyai Namah
    • Kuber Yantra: Om Yakshaya Kuberaya Vaishravanaya Dhana-Dhanyadi Padayeh Dhana-Dhanya Samriddhim Me Dehi Tapaya Svaha
  6. Place with intention: Set a clear intention for what the yantra will accomplish in this specific location
  7. Express gratitude: Offer final flowers and bow

Maintenance of Installed Yantras

Yantras require periodic maintenance to stay energetically active:

Maintenance TaskFrequency
Wipe clean with damp clothWeekly
Apply kumkum tilak at the binduOn full moon day (Purnima) monthly
Re-offer incense and ghee lampOn full moon and new moon (monthly)
Full re-activation ritualOnce a year — ideally on the same auspicious day as original installation
Replace if physically damagedImmediately — a damaged yantra must not remain installed

Yantra Placement Don'ts

  • Never place a yantra on the floor: Yantras must be elevated — on a wall, shelf, altar, or plate
  • Never place face-down: The yantra's geometric face must be visible and unobstructed
  • Never place in a bathroom or toilet: Even as a remedy — the yantra should not be in the impurity zone itself; it goes on the outside wall of the impure zone
  • Never share a yantra with another household: Each yantra is consecrated for a specific household intention
  • Never place where it cannot be seen: Yantras hidden in walls or behind furniture cannot radiate their energy effectively
  • Never place without consecration: An unconsecrated yantra has no energetic function

Frequently Asked Questions — Vastu Yantra Placement

Q1. Can I place multiple yantras in the same room?

Yes, but maintain separation of at least 3 feet between yantras. Each yantra has its own energy field — too close together and they can interfere with each other. Place the Sri Yantra as the primary instrument, and support yantras at appropriate directional walls.

Q2. I bought a yantra from a general store. Is it effective?

A yantra without consecration is a geometric artwork. It may have minor energetic value due to the sacred geometry alone, but it functions at perhaps 10% of a properly consecrated yantra's capacity. For doshas requiring serious remediation, always use a consecrated yantra from a qualified source.

Q3. Is there a difference between an engraved yantra and a printed yantra?

Yes — engraved yantras (physically etched into metal) hold consecration more effectively than printed yantras. The physical act of engraving creates deeper grooves that "lock" the energy geometry. Printed yantras on paper are acceptable for temporary use or for wallet/personal use but are less effective for permanent home installation.

Q4. My Sri Yantra fell from the wall and cracked. What do I do?

A physically damaged yantra should be removed from service immediately. Immerse it in a natural water body (river, ocean — not a drain) with respect, thanking it for its service. Install a new, freshly consecrated yantra. Do not continue using a damaged yantra.

Q5. Can women touch and handle yantras?

Yes — the prohibition that existed in some traditional contexts was a social restriction, not a Vastu-shastraic requirement. Women can handle, clean, and activate yantras without restriction.

Q6. How do I know if a yantra is "working"?

Observable indicators within 30-90 days of correct installation: a general lightening of the home's atmosphere, improved sleep quality, reduced arguments, and the beginning of positive shifts in the dosh area (finances, health, or relationships). Subtle energy work requires patient observation.
